George - Chestnut, Irish Draught X

I'm George and I have been at Mountains since 2002 when my hunting days came to an end. I was a Hunt Master's horse and really enjoyed my busy life. Unfortunately I had a hunting accident and I cut my eye . This meant I had to retire. It doesn't affect my good looks though! I am friendly with both people and horses but like to be the boss in my field and, if I can, will get to the hay and feeds first.

Crisp - Chestnut, Shetland

I came to the Sanctuary in June 1985, when it was in Kent, England. I am 9.3hh and chestnut with a flaxen mane. My best girl is a black Shetland called Blackie, she is very pretty and my best friend is Prince.I am one of life's good 'doer's'. I do need to watch my figure as I have a tendency to gain weight. I'll start my diet tomorrow! I am a really friendly but cheeky boy and love being groomed and cuddled

Nimrod - Roan, Min. Shetland

Hello! I am a miniature Shetland called Nimrod and I came to the Sanctuary in 1985. I have to say I'm one of the cutest ponies here! Do you agree? I get mistaken for a big cuddly teddy bear in the winter! My main problem is the sunshine. Did you know that our pink noses can get badly burnt by the sun if we don't put sunscreen on twice daily? I sometimes make the girls run after me to get this done as I think this is funny! I love getting groomed.

Badger - Piebald, Cob

I'm Badger and I arrived at Mountains Animal Sanctuary in March 2005. I used to work for the Riding for Disabled Association but I was retired due to arthritis in my front knees. Although I can no longer work everyday, the staff still occasionally ride me in the summer months. This keeps me active and I have been used for pony rides at the Open Day.

I live in fields with lots of other chunky horses, so I fit in great! I love to hang around with my friend Bobby as we have lots in common. We both used to work at RDA and this summer two of our old friends at the RDA came here to stay, Sandaigh and Haggis. It's great we are all together again and we often get up to all sorts of mischief but mostly we just like to share the hay together!

Johnny -Black, Clydesdale X

I came to the Sanctuary in September 2003 when I retired from a busy job teaching people at the Riding for the Disabled Association. I had to stop because my eyesight is not as good as it used to be and I suffer from breathing problems when in a dusty environment. I love people and am very quiet and kind.

Moosh - Tri-colour, Cob

My name is Moosh. I've been at the Sanctuary since 1994. I came all the way from Wales with my friend Max. I have to have 'sparse grass' as I put on weight very easily but my diet seems to work because I think my figure's looking good. Do you agree? I really enjoy getting groomed and receiving lots of attention.

Secret - Black/Grey,Falabella (Min.Horse)

Hi! I am a miniature horse and my name is Secret. I came to the Sanctuary in November 2000 as my owner could no longer look after me. I am the smallest pony here and that makes me very special. I am all of 27 inches tall but I've heard the girls say that I'm almost double that around my tummy! Apparently I'm on a permanent diet but, please, don't let that stop you leaving me a treat! If you would like to adopt me please ask a member of staff.

Friday - Black, Donkey

I'm called 'Friday' because I was named on Good Friday. I came here in 1995. I can't be in a dusty environment as it affects my breathing. I have a condition called 'RAO' ( Respiratory Airway Obstruction, similar to human Asthma). Luckily, I don't have to have any medication but in the winter I have to come into the stables. My friend Tabithba comes in with me too. We are such good friends, we go everywhere together, she is my best pal.

Tabitha - Grey Donkey

I came to the sanctuary with my mum 'Twee' and my brother, 'Henry'. Sadly, my Mum has passed on but my big brother Henry is still here. I spend most of my time with my best friend, 'Friday'. We are always together and don't like to be apart, even at feed times. I like the summer months when it is warm as I am not so keen on the colder months. Although, I do get a cosy rug on to keep me warm. 'Henry', Friday and I are all on the adoption list, so please, please adopt one of us!!

Martini - Dark Bay, Dartmoor X

Hello, I'm Martini and I am a very lucky pony because I have been very ill. I had a horrid disease called Grass Sickness that took months of very careful nursing to get me better. My owner did an amazing job to get me through my illness and also a bad attack of laminitis, which made my feet very sore, but her family commitments meant that she could no longer keep me. I have come to Mountains so they can take over my care. I love people so please come and say Hello to me.

Nellie - Black, Shetland

I arrived at the Sanctuary in 1994 with my friends 'Hector' and 'Victor'. Some people call me 'Nellie with the Belly', but I like to think I've just got big bones. I do need to watch my weight so I don't get sore feet, and just now I am quite trim ; in my terms any way!

Henry - Grey, Donkey

I arrived at the Sanctuary in May 1985 with my Mum, Twee' and sister, Tabitha'. Sadly, my Mum passed away, so it is just me and Tabitha now. I've had a few abscesses in my feet and I have a tendency to carry a little bit more weight than I should, otherwise I'm in good shape for my age. I live in a field with other Donkeys and we all enjoy each other's company!
