Mountains Animal Sanctuary was formed by Alan Fraser who died in 2010. It continues to operate thanks to dedicated staff and volunteers and equally dedicated trustees; Ian Hunter and John Sewell-Rutter.

Mountains Animal Sanctuary was founded in 1982 by:

ALAN BEAUFORT FRASER (1930 – 2010)

…and was registered as a Charity in 1984.

TRUSTEES:

IAN HUNTER (Chairman)

(detail to follow)

JOHN SEWELL – RUTTER MSc, BSc (Econ)

With an early professional background in marketing with a leading international advertising agency and companies such as Nabisco and Cadbury’s, John’s career over the next 20 years encompassed extensive activity overseas and managing directorships with two manufacturing companies.

As a lifelong animal lover and prior to retirement, John enjoyed seven years as Chief Executive with The Blue Cross animal welfare charity; it was during this period that he forged strong links with other animal charities – including Mountains – and when our founder, the late Alan Fraser, invited him to become a trustee, he was, of course, delighted to accept.

John is a trustee of several animal related charities and during the past 40 years, his family has been home to around 40 donkeys who, in his estimation, are “kings of the equine world”.

In addition to his work with animals, John is a volunteer mentor for young entrepreneurs supported by the Prince’s Trust.
