DAYZEE

One of over 120 horses and donkeys saved from neglect and abuse.

Dayzee was rescued at 11 weeks old and is a Falabella. With round the clock care from our grooms and first class veterinary treatment; she now enjoys life to the full with her field companions. Dayzee has a condition called Luxating Patella, but this doesn’t affect her ability to gallop around playfully. She’s so cute; it’s difficult to remember to treat her like a normal sized horse!

Make a point of seeing Dayzee when you visit, plus, learn more about the story of Mountains Animal Sanctuary.

MOUNTAINS ANIMAL SANCTUARY

The Story so far!

Mountains Animal Sanctuary was founded in 1982 by Alan Fraser (1930 – 2010) and was registered as a Charity in 1984.

A remarkably successful racing driver in his youth, Alan Fraser is also noted for having developed the Fraser Imp; a competition car that, in the 50s and 60s, rivalled the Mini Cooper!

Retiring from the circuit in his 40s, Alan spent a decade living in Spain, Tenerife and Gibraltar and it was during this period that his lifelong love of animals developed into a desire to actively help those that were being mis-treated. Consequently, in Gibraltar, he became chairman of the RSPCA, drafted in new inspectors from the UK, built new kennels and catteries and set up a mobile animal surgery service.

On his return to the UK in 1979 and with the help of his mother, he continued this work by rescuing four neglected ponies and in 1982, Mountains Animal Sanctuary was formed at the family home in Kent. It was later dedicated to the memory of his late mother.

Then, in 1991, came the move to Scotland. Over 100 inhabitants were transported to a new, 260 acre site at Milton of Ogil and since then, over 500 horses, ponies and donkeys have been rescued by Mountains Animal Sanctuary.

Always remembered as a dedicated animal lover with a lifelong mission to end suffering for all animals, Alan Fraser died in October, 2010. His work, though, continues via dedicated staff and his equally dedicated, fellow trustees: Ian Hunter and John Rutter.
